The Seattle Times is the largest circulation newspaper in Seattle, Washington, United States. Since 1983, The Seattle Times and its competitors, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer (PI) owned the Hearst has agreed to cooperate management, although they still have the news and editorial divisions themselves. Sunday edition was published as a result of collaboration between The Seattle Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
Short History
The Seattle Times started from a four-page newspaper the Seattle Press-Times, founded in 1891. Alden J. Blethen, a teacher and lawyer from Maine to buy a newspaper with a circulation of 3,500 copies of this in-Times Press 1896.Seattle renamed the Seattle Daily Times, and circulation increased to double in six months. In 1915, newspaper circulation has reached 70 thousand copies. In September 2007, the weekday edition circulation reached 215,311 copies.
This Daily is one of a small number of daily in major U.S. cities are still independently managed and owned by a local businessman. The Seattle Times is still owned by Blethen family. Besides owning and managing The Seattle Times, The Seattle Times Company also has three other papers in Washington, and named Blethen Maine Newspapers publisher that publishes five newspapers in Maine.
