About The Age
The Age is an Australian newspaper published in Melbourne.
The journal is published by The Age Company Ltd, a subsidiary of the media group John Fairfax Holdings Limited, which also publishes the Sydney Morning Herald, The Canberra Times, the Australian Financial Review and the New Zealand Dominion Post.
Its only competitor in Melbourne's Herald Sun Rupert Murdoch.
The newspaper is centrist, sometimes rather social democratic, pro-free trade and moderately liberal on social issues.
It publishes articles in the British newspaper The Guardian left but also editorials conservative personalities such as Gerard Henderson.
This centrist position contrasts sharply with that clearly right, its competitor ironically nicknamed "The Spencer Street Soviet" (The Age is located 250 Spencer Street in Melbourne since 1969).
